Love This Life

I saw this on a t-shirt the other day and realized this captured how I feel since moving to Mammoth Lakes. Now that summer is almost here, this saying is even more appropriate. When we bought a second home here in 2003 I had only been to Mammoth Lakes in the winter. I have truly come to understand the phrase often used by locals “come for the winter but stay for the summer.”

Me and "Coach Bobby" at the top.Turning the big 5-0 this year also helped put things in perspective. There are so many things I want to do while my body is still cooperating. Warmer weather offers the opportunity to try new things. I purchased a road bike and have been joining the Wednesday morning Footloose Sports rides that started this month. So far we have met twice at Whitmore pool and rode approximately 29 miles (14+ miles to Waterson Divide and then back) . I really did not think I could make it but with the support of “Coach Bobby” and the amazing ladies on this ride — I DID IT!

Double Eagle (Small)

We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary this month and John surprised me with a “stay-cation” at Double Eagle Resort in June Mountain. We have been to the resort many times but have never spent the night. The rooms are quaint and setting is amazing (they also have larger cabins). We celebrated by going on a very beautiful (although strenuous) hike to Fern Lake (4 miles round trip and over 2000 foot elevation gain!). Massages in the late afternoon followed by dinner and Eagles Landing Restaurant (located at the resort) wrapped up a great day. I highly recommend a visit to Double Eagle Resort. Even if you are hiking or fishing in the area, stop by and pay the day use fee. There is an indoor pool, Jacuzzis, steam and fully equipped locker room. Click here for Double Eagle Resort

Another one of my favorite summer activities is golf. Sierra Star Golf Course opens Friday, May 17 (much earlier than in years past) and the course looks great! There are many more new activities planned for this summer — a few BIG ones in June. More details next month. I would love to hear from you — let me know what you enjoy about Mammoth Lakes in the summer.
