Fall Hikes – Convict Lake

One of the easiest and most accessible hikes around, Convict Lake offers amazing photo opportunities.

Convict Lake is close to Mammoth Lakes.  Take 395 south approximately 10 minutes and turn on the road across from the Mammoth Yosemite Airport.

The trail is about 3 miles total that follows the shoreline, you can hike in either direction around the lake starting next to the boat launch or cross the bridge over Convict Creek, pass the campground entrance and head to the end of the pavement.  I prefer starting near the boat launch as this side has more sun and you can get the shade at the end of the hike.   At the back of the lake there is a board walk that crosses the creek, and is pretty year-round but the fall is especially beautiful.
