Tucked away at the base of 10,909-ft Carson Peak, the scenic 16-mile June Lake Loop is a mountain hideaway. The area has been attracting outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers dating back to Hollywood’s discovery of June Lake in the 1920’s.

The hidden gem of the June Lake area is located along the southernmost rim of the Mono Basin.  Less than 30 minutes north of Mammoth Lakes on Highway 395, take California State Route 158 which makes a 16-mile loop around (knows as the June Lake Loop).  This route offers jaw-dropping dramatic mountainous views.   On the June Lake Loop, you can drive by several impressive lakes including June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake.  This does not include the other lakes accessible by all levels of hiking.

Among the lakes and streams, exists a four-season oasis. During winter, June Mountain is California’s family ski and snowboard resort, where kids under 12 ski and ride for free, offering terrain for all levels of alpine, telemark and snowboard enthusiasts.  The local backcountry is a haven for ski and snowboard mountaineers, climbers, and ice climbers.  When the snow melts, there is even more to do! The loop is probably best known for its world-class trout fishing. There are also many hiking trails, and opportunities for varied activities including swimming, paddling, and boating, bicycling, canoeing, rock climbing, art and photography, scenic drives or simply relaxing in a tranquil mountain setting.
